Have previously had some good nights here- nice pub, a proper old counter, warm fire. Recently, at closing time the barman singled out our group and repeatedly shouted at us to drink up and leave. I pointed out that he had just served another group and hadn't asked them to leave. He said they were "staff" and legally entitled to drink on....in fact there is no special legislative provision for this under the Intoxicating Liquor Acts. He fumbled his words a bit and looked quite embarrassed and flustered when this was made clear to him- in fact he appeared not to be familiar with the legislation. I have absolutely no objection to being asked to drink up at closing time, but i do object to bar staff trying to make up the law in this way. - Jim, Ireland

Costigans is one of the few pubs left in Cork that still has that cosy, traditional feel to it while also being a great place to meet people. This coupled with their live music, great beer and friendly staff makes it one of the top pubs in Cork! - Jack, Ireland

Some out-of-towner's mistake it for a similar named Pub on Oliver plunket ST.!!!! Mainly people from Limerick and Waterford Make this Mistake - Jon E, Bandon, Cork

This is really the place to have a drink in a really Irish atmosphere- you will find a great cross section of people there- great staff and drinks. A HUGE change from souless \"trendy\" bars where they just want to take your cash and give no service. - Brian, Ireland

costigans has recently been redone throughout and is definately one of the best pubs in Cork. A spectacular place any night of the week although very busy come the weekend. It has a cool interior courtyard for smokers. The pints are delicious and the place is full of friendly people and smiling staff. When i visit cork i always head here.
Even the bathrooms are cool. A must to check out - Martin , U.S
