Prepare to be educated. Did you know that Che Guevara, the First Lord of Bizkaia and, knowing Patrick, probably Nelson Mandela too, were all Irish? These gems and more await in Scanlan's public library, cleverly disguised as a bar. Great people, enough of the Spanish/Basque stuff to know you're abroad but SKY sports on the telly in case you don't want to be. - Kenny, UK

This bar has saved my life,after years of drinking around Gernika i found a local pub like in the uk.Pat is a good story teller and has plenty of info about rugby and footy.Also the drinkers there are very friendly - Paul, Gernika

What a great bar! The food was some of the best in this part of the region and the pints of guinness the best in the country. Great craic learning about Irish whiskey too. 5 stars. - David, Euskadi

Patrick left quite an impression on us at the bar. We were educated on just about every century of English and Irish history, it was a special time. The beer was great, but the Whisky was even better. This made our time in Gernika 10 times more fun. A great time for us and a bar you must visit! - Study Abroad Students in Bilbao, USA, California

Guinness is great, best in basque country. The Murphys Red and Paulaner are good too, not that I've tried them :) (never pass up good Guinness for anything else)
Go here for anything rugby related. Also Liverpool and Athletic de Bilbao , in that order. Olatz does a great range of Pintxos (like tapas only better). Patrick will keep you talking in between sups. Good beer (only well-kept draught) with arguably the best Guinness in Spain. A selection of only Irish whiskeys. Sport on TV for all the big event - Rugby World Cup, soccer, etc. - and live music some nights at the weekend.
