Male This is a huge pub just 5mins form the bridge (Northshore). If you go to Oz be prepared that unlike Uk you will not find a pub on every corner. Only a couple of districts of Sydney and Melbore... are like that. Yeah in the city and main tourist trails there is pubs. But most are bistro time things. In general you will only find one decent pub per district. And they tend to be huge. The oaks is no exception. It has a huge garden area for outdoor dining and smashing area for summer nights and boozing days. it has a large lounge area where food and kids are a plenty. It had a bar, with a more local feel to it. Several pool table rooms based on the old set up of the origonal pub. It also has a swanky fornt bar for young cool people. (much prefered the old tram bar it replaced.) Plus the typical Aussie pokey (gambling) room. The pub is well run, it has to be as in services thousands of people on weekend. (at least a quarter of them seem to be Ex pat Brits)From families to you dudes to old men. There is an area and a mood for anyone in this bar. In my 4 yeas in Sydney I never saw one bit of trouble in this pub. But went there with mates, footie team, old grandad etc and never felt out of place. A really dependable location location for a drink and a bite to eat. Menu is limited.. Steaks on a DIY BBQ, pizza & mussels. Seems limited but all are done well & when you see how many pizzas they dish out you can forgive them for doing a limited menu but doing it very well. Only thing I disliked was the lack of personal feel (I missed the old bar the refurbished) but something on this size can not be personal. If you want that head to Balmian. Tip for you, the oaks has a bottle shop, so buy you wine at a fraction of the menu price from there. Better selection, cheaper. "And I want a pint of tartan speical"
